“When the explosion detonated, I saw stars…like I was kicked in the head by a mule. My entire body went numb as I laid there waiting to make sure another round wasn’t incoming. Then I went mad like a horse with blinders.”
“Mad?” questioned McDowell.
“I sprang up and just bolted for the door. My mind was filled with horrible thoughts of dying soldiers, all scattered over the ground. Adrenaline pumping and coursing through my veins, I was blind with altruism. Clearly, I was like some fool jumping on a hand grenade, and as my team stayed down on the ground waiting for the next missile impact, I ran out.”
